Project Phases Details
This Ashfield Parade project is a foreshore restoration project
The project has improved the stability of the river bank, rectified the site’s stormwater drainage problems, restored native vegetation communities and safeguarded public access to the largest remaining river flat in the Perth Metropolitan area.
Before the project’s inception, the high and steep riverbanks of the Reserve had been heavily degraded by storm water drainage, surface water runoff, groundwater seepage, river wave impacts, and informal public access. Significant investigations – including foreshore assessments, hydrological and hydraulic analysis, and historical studies – were carried out in order to ensure appropriate recommendations.
An open and comprehensive approach to community liaison resulted in a project that incorporates all stakeholder aspirations for the area and that is sympathetic to the site’s physical, sociocultural and historical attributes.
Key outcomes
- Strategic protection of Indigenous Swan River ecosystems.
- Long-term site management to safeguard community interaction with the local environment.
- Extensive information collation on the local area ranging from environmental condition, ecology, topography and history.
- Successful consultation with a broad range of stakeholder groups, facilitating the implementation of an innovative & culturally sensitive strategic vision.
- Management as per Australian Institute of Project Management.
- Effective interdisciplinary communication leading to efficient operations and the most cost effective option.
